Awareness About Eco-Friendly Ganesha Idols!

Ganesh Chaturthi is round the corner, let us bring home an Eco-friendly Ganapathi this year! Our hearts are filled with immense joy for our lord Ganesha. What's better than Celebrating Ganesha festival and paying tribute to mother nature at the same time? The concept of Ganesh visarjan itself is Eco-friendly as it depicts moksha and how everything eventually dissolves in nature.

As per tradition, only clay idols of the lord should be worshiped and immersed in water.  Like all other things, now a days Ganesha idols too have been commercialized. Water bodies filled with the PoP idols often get contaminated with chemicals and toxic paints. This will take many years to degenerate which results in poisoning the waters of lake, ponds, rivers and seas.

There has been an increasing awareness about Eco-friendly practices in all walks of life. When it comes to Ganesh Chaturthi both government and citizens worked hard to make it an environmental friendly festival. Many youth organizations, Students are crusading for the development and usage of Eco-friendly idols. With the usage of the Eco-friendly idols the water bodies get a significantly lesser dose of toxic chemical paints and Plaster of Paris.

The movement to create awareness and campaign for clay idols, sans colors, is gaining ground especially among children with large number of schools in the State actively participating in the venture. Schools across the State which are already into `green activities'  are busy letting children gain first-hand experience of making clay idols and thus prompting them to carry the message to their families and in the neighborhood.

Let’s spread awareness and make a pledge to get back to our roots and celebrate the festival in a pure, traditional, eco-friendly way. Let’s dirty our hands a little for a cleaner future!
